Vision Statement

The Hixson Church of Christ exists to praise and glorify our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ; rejoicing in Him as we draw people to Jesus, helping believers grow to maturity, and equipping all to better serve others.

Our Purpose

  • Love God

  • Tell people about Jesus

  • Equip people for a lifetime of service.

Who Are We?

The Hixson church of Christ is a non-denominational church focused on being a beacon of light to our community.  We are committed to feeding the hungry, caring for the poor and reaching  out to those who are in need as well as providing an oasis for spiritual development.

We believe the Bible is the inspired word of God, Jesus is God's Son, and the Holy Spirit is our guide.

We believe Jesus represents our only hope for salvation.  Our salvation is a gift from God, a gift that can not be bought or earned.  Each week, we gather together to learn more about God's will in our life and celebrate the life, death, and resurrection of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

The People at Hixson

What kind of people can you expect to find?

Pretty much the entire spectrum, as in any group.

You will find traditionalists... and you'll find those who prefer anything new over everything old.

You will find those of us who mistake our tradition for absolute truth, and get pretty bent out of shape when they are tampered with. And you'll find those of us who are a bit smug at having been liberated from tradition.

You will find legalists and liberals...and a lot of people in between.

You will find happy people... and grouchy people. Friendly people... and unfriendly people. Loving people... and cantankerous people. People who are learning... and people who already know everything.

You'll find us to be like the little West Texas community that has a billboard at the edge of town, which says, "The Home of 3,000 Friendly People - And A Few Old Soreheads."

You get the picture. We're a diverse group, coming from varied backgrounds, and at different stages of knowledge and spiritual growth.

We don't know everything. We don't do everything right. We don't always treat each other as we should. We haven't arrived - we're just on the journey.

But, you see, we were not brought together by any illusion of our perfection or righteousness. We were brought together by our recognition that we are sinners in need of the cleansing blood of Jesus. (Mark 2:17; Romans 5:6-9; Ephesians 1:7; I John 1:7).

That’s the reason we can worship together, stick together, and, with God's help, accomplish some things that make a difference.

You won't have to look very far to find our failures.

But, the bottom line, you will find people who love God and love the Bible.

The History of the Hixson Church of Christ.

It was in 1934 that a small group of worshippers rented the old Jones store with the intent of telling the people of Hixson about Jesus.

In the winter, the old store was too cold to worship in and the little group of Christians would move to the Lodge Hall to worship. When the weather warmed up, they would go back to the old store.

On April 19th, 1936 the Hixson church moved into a small home, owned by S.B. Walker and stayed at this location for a little over a decade, until the summer of 1947.

It was in 1936 that Conrad Bates began preaching once a month for the Hixson Church of Christ. He would preach for them part-time for the next ten years until he became Hixson’s first full-time preacher in the summer of 1947 when they had grown large enough to provide a modest salary.

It was also in 1947 that the Hixson Church of Christ moved to Hamill Road, built a new building and became the Hamill Road church of Christ. At the time, the membership had grown to nearly 40.

The church would continue to grow in the forties and fifties and in 1960, a new church building was built on the corner of Cloverdale and Hixson Pike, where we are today. Tragically, the church building would be destroyed by fire in March of 1962. While waiting for the building to be re-built, the church worshipped at the Hixson High School.

In 1968, the building was enlarged with an auditorium that could seat nearly a thousand people. No one could doubt the future of the church appeared bright.

In the early 1980’s the church decided to move once again. 13 acres of land were purchased with the dream of moving to a larger site with room to grow.

As the Hixson area became more populated those 13 acres, zoned commercial, became a valuable tract of land. God provided a great opportunity for the Hixson church family by providing buyers for those 13 acres.

By selling the land, the Hixson church would be able to build additional facilities without going into a great deal of debt.

In 1995, the new auditorium and the Christian Activity Center (CAC) were completed.

In 2000, the Children’s Ministry was renovated and the offices were added.

2001 was a year of phenomenal growth and the year that Hixson began it search for a new site on which to build a facility large enough to accommodate long term growth.

2002 began with the announcement of an agreement to purchase 100 acres on Hixson Pike some 3 miles north of the present facility.

Please come to Hixson, join us in our journey!
